Components of Quality Work

PREPLANNING AN ASSIGNMENT

1.ALWAYS pre-plan by making a rough sketch/draft. Check that all

requirements have been met by reading through the rubric.

2.Use a ruler for ALL lines.

3.Use light pencil lines first on the good copy and erase them once

outlined.

4.Balance the layout and be thoughtful about placement of labels,

pictures, etc. Use the space wisely.

LETTERING OF HEADINGS/TITLES/LABELS

1. Draw a faint ruler line with a pencil to keep your words straight.

2. Use consistent lettering (same letter style- for example, all capital or all

lower case).

3. Measure the placement of the heading using a ruler. Make sure spacing

is the same on both sides.

COLORING

1.When shading in areas, color within the lines and in one direction

leaving no white spaces.

2.Use a thin-lined magic marker, dark crayon, or dark colored pencil (any

color) for outlining. Use a ruler to outline straight lines!

3.Color using colored pencils or crayons ONLY for large areas - fine tip

markers for smaller areas.

CUTTING/PASTING

1.Cut with scissors on pre-measured lines. TAKE YOUR TIME!

2.Evenly spread glue and use it moderately. Using glue sticks gives you a more

even appearance.

FINAL STEPS

1. Identify where you should place your name/date based on the teacher’s

requirements.

2. Erase all pencil lines after you have outlined them.

3. Make sure you have paid attention to detail throughout. Check the rubric, or

project sheet and check you have met or exceeded all the requirements.

4. When finished, carefully roll or neatly crease, if folded.
