OLYMPIAN TEAM GENERAL ASSIGNMENT AND BEHAVIORAL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Homework/Class Assignments- All daily classwork and homework/assignments can be found on your child's Canvas calendar daily listing for that subject. (NOTE: Only class assignments specifically created to be completed in Canvas can be found in the "To Do" list that appears on the right side of the class page in Canvas.) Students are expected to work on homework for approximately one hour nightly. We will work as a team to try to keep within that range. Please let us know if your child is consistently working longer than one hour. Students are also expected to read nightly.
Absences-If your child is absent more than three days, please call early in the morning, and we will put together a packet of assignments. For short absences, your child should check Canvas to see what they have missed. Students may work during resource periods to catch up with missed assignments upon their return. Students are expected to make up any work they missed and are responsible for getting this work from each of their teachers during resource period the day they return. Also, any projects which were to be turned in on the day a student is absent are due the first day they return to school.
Powerschool- It is recommended that your child check grades on PowerSchool regularly and to complete any work that is marked with a zero/missing/late as soon as possible. What is listed in Powerschool (and NOT Canvas) is your child's current grade.
Project Work-Students will be given some time in school to work on all projects; however, it is expected that most of them will need to be completed at home. Please allow students to do their own work. We appreciate your help, but the finished product should be your child’s. Students should be encouraged to refer to the components of quality work and the project rubric/requirement sheets periodically as they complete the assignment. The team policy for a late project is a deduction of one grade for each day it is late.
Behavior Concerns-Please contact us should your child be experiencing any difficulties at school. A small problem can become larger each day if not addressed. Our policy for student behavior concerns is to first meet with the student privately and then meet with the child as a team. If difficulties continue, parents will be called, and, if necessary, a conference will be scheduled. It is our goal to use the responsive classroom, restorative practices and the parent/student/teacher partnership before involving the assistant principal unless a major school policy has been violated. The best time to contact the team is between 12;15 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. (610-847-5131, ext. 1109) or via email.
Sleep- With school starting earlier than in elementary school, students often have difficulty adjusting and may need more sleep at night. Please encourage your child to go to bed early and get as much rest as possible.
