School Supply Letter

Dear 6th Grader:

Welcome to Palisades Middle School!  We are excited to have you join our team!  ORGANIZATION is our goal for you this year! To help you with this goal, on August 26th, the first day of school, please bring the items listed below:

 

Pick ONE of the following two options:

  • Four, 1 inch, three ring binders - one for each of your subjects (except science, which needs only a two pocket folder).  Please get the ones with see-through plastic covers which can have papers inserted.  It’s recommended you label your subject and class periods on the spines. The following colors are needed:

Black – Math     Red – Reading     White - English     Green – Science     Blue – Social Studies

OR

  • A large binder with a zipper with room for 5 subjects, 5 double pocket folders with fasteners (one of each color:  green, blue, black, red, purple) and dividers with tabs labeled with subject/class period.

(NOTE: if all colors can’t be found, just get five different colors.)

Bring ALL of the following items:

  • Homework folder (two pockets, design of your choosing!) (NOTE: You will be given one the first day, but you may want to have a backup)
  • Notebook paper in each binder-buy one pack and split it. (PLEASE supply throughout the year)
  • Pencils AND blue/black pens (PLEASE supply throughout the year)
  • Erasers/eraser caps
  • TI-34 Multiview Scientific Calculator (highly recommended, but not required for math class) - Label with your name!
  • A writing journal (any type for English class)
  • Pencil case to keep in a notebook and a pencil sharpener
  • Dry erase markers and a clean sock/eraser
  • Highlighter
  • Colored pencils and thin-lined colored markers
  • Fine point and regular black Sharpie markers  (PLEASE supply throughout the ye
  • Headphones/earbuds for your Chromebook-one with a microphone included is recommended.
  • Suggested items: hand sanitizer, wireless mouse for your Chromebook, glue sticks, ruler, & 1 pack of 4x6” index cards.
  • A check payable to PALMS in the amount of $6.00 to cover the cost of an assignment book.
    • An assignment book will be expected in each of our classrooms daily. If you don’t want to purchase the school’s book, you must have a notebook/calendar where you can write your assignments daily.  From experience, we’ve learned that this is an invaluable organizational tool. 

  • A check in the amount of $21.00 to cover the cost of a gym uniform. ($7 shirt/$14 shorts - you may wear your own black shorts, but shirts must be purchased).

These are the summer reading books for incoming sixth graders!  We expect that everyone will have read one of these books by August 28th.  There will be required follow-up classroom activities using these books.
